Pressure-sensitive labels can be applied to a wide range of materials, covering most common materials found in everyday and industrial settings. They can be categorized into the following major types based on surface characteristics:
Smooth, Hard Materials
These materials have a flat, dense surface and are the easiest for pressure-sensitive labels to adhere to. Ordinary adhesives provide a strong bond.
Paper Products: Coated paper packaging boxes, laminated cardboard boxes, hardcover book covers.
Rough, Porous Materials
These materials have uneven or porous surfaces, which can trap air. Stronger adhesives with a slightly thicker adhesive layer (such as hot-melt adhesive) are needed to fill the gaps and improve adhesion.
Paper Products: Ordinary cardboard boxes, kraft paper, corrugated cardboard, paperboard, woven paper bags.
These materials have low surface tension, making it difficult for ordinary adhesives to adhere. Special low-surface-energy adhesives are required for pressure-sensitive labels.
