How to choose the right self-adhesive labels?

2025-12-18 0 Leave me a message

Choosing the right self-adhesive label is crucial and depends on matching the application scenario, substrate material, environmental requirements, and printing needs.  You can filter your options step-by-step using the following steps and dimensions:

Clarify Core Usage Scenarios and Requirements

Labeling Object: Determine the material and surface condition of the object to be labeled; this is a key prerequisite for selection.

Smooth materials (glass, plastic bottles, metal cans):  Ordinary acrylic adhesive labels can be used, providing strong adhesion and preventing edge lifting.

Rough materials (cardboard boxes, woven bags, wooden surfaces):  Thicker, stronger hot-melt adhesive labels are needed to enhance adhesion.

Low surface energy materials (PE film, PP boxes, silicone products): Special low surface energy adhesive labels are required, as ordinary adhesives will not adhere.

Usage Environment: Select weather-resistant labels based on temperature, humidity, and contact with special substances.

Normal temperature and dry environment (office, general product packaging): General-purpose coated paper self-adhesive labels are sufficient.

Humid/cold chain environment (fresh produce, refrigerated food): Waterproof PP/PET labels with waterproof adhesive are needed to prevent wrinkling and peeling.

High-temperature environment (kitchen utensils, engine parts): High-temperature resistant PET labels are required, typically withstanding temperatures above 120℃.

Outdoor exposure environment (logistics turnover boxes, outdoor equipment): Choose UV-resistant labels with lamination to prevent fading and aging.

Environment with oil/chemicals (chemical products, oil drums): Oil-resistant and solvent-resistant synthetic paper or PET labels are necessary.

Usage Period

Short-term use (express delivery labels, temporary promotional labels): Cost-effective coated paper labels can be chosen, without the need for strong weather resistance.

Long-term use (product nameplates, equipment identification): Prioritize durable materials such as PET and synthetic paper, paired with permanent adhesive.

Removable requirements (office supplies, leased equipment): Choose removable adhesive labels that leave no residue after removal.
